17 May, 2012Located in the atrium lobby of the hotel, The Courtyard is the epitome of an indulgent chill-out spot. Furnished with plush armchairs and carpets, its elegance is accented by warm colors and lighting. The surrounding greenery as well as live music, which fills the air with soothing tunes, create an inviting ambience both relaxing and luxurious.
Forget about booking a room! We could’ve fallen asleep being so snugly ensconced in our comfy seats, completely enveloped in serenity. Only we had ordered cakes from the Cake Boutique, and I was eager to tuck in.
The hot chocolate ($12) was served with a dainty slice of kueh lapis. I was hoping to wax lyrical about it but it’s too milky and the taste seriously lacked chocolatey richness.
The fullerton cheesecake ($9) was adorned with mixed berries, and the smooth creamy cheese wasn’t cloying. In fact, a little richer would’ve been more impressive, and too bad the base was a tad soggy.
We were very much taken with the lemon meringue tart ($9). The crispy shell hinted of butter while the curd was fluid yet firm. One small bite and the zest literally exploded in our mouths. Topped with a creamy soft meringue, its sweetness was a nice contrast.
Service was polite and professional. Our water was refilled a few times while we enjoyed a blissful couple of hours. When it’s time to head home, it took a great deal of willpower just to get our butts off the seats!
Note: 50% off pastries and sliced cakes after 7pm daily for takeaways only.
