Once dilapidated, this 1930s Art Deco Four-storey shop-houses have been refurbished, carefully restored and brought back to their former glory. These award winning conservation shop-houses now house SoHo style offices on the upper floors with art galleries, high-end kitchen appliances, and an eatery on street level.

For the love of museums, galleries, coffee and a rich heritage in this area, SOHO COFFEE was born into this enclave. Having a café incorporate the whole experience of enjoying the finer things in life. Visitors to this cultural district can now relax and unwind while sipping a good cup of coffee in style.

Come dusk, this heritage building is transformed magically with special lightings to enhance the grand colonial beauty. For someone who has in mind a perfect setting in the city and yet quietly tucked away, this becomes a perfect setting for evening dining or private event at the café.

Fed up with the crowd at food for thought, I walked over to SoHo for their delished.com brunch deal, $15 for starter, main and coffee/tea. It was a nice small cafe tucked in a corner with no visible signboards so keep a lookout! Had their breakfast set with greens, brioche, back bacon, bratwurst, tomato, mushrooms and scrambled eggs! Love the eggs, and their coffee blend was pretty strong.

    PICTURES HERE

Last visit, I had a brunch here.

This visit saw a 10% service charge on food items, and no more check-in free coffee (or $1 top up for milky coffee).

In fairness, they do fairly good lunch deals (about $10+ with lemon tea) and dessert deals ($8+ hot drink & cake/muffin) on regular basis.

                                                    Cappuccino SGD5+

I only know if I like the coffee or not, and mainly the Italian treated kind of milky coffee agrees with me.

This cup of cappuccino tasted very nutty, carried quite a few notes and most evidently was caramel.

                                               The Best Ever Burger SGD14+

    The burger was alright overall.

Buns were too soft to support the heavy patty and the rest of the wet fillings.

So, I recommend you to use fork and knife it you don’t want to end up with sticky fingers.

                                                       Latte SGD5+

Latte is milky and smooth overall.

Lacked fragrance in comparison to the cappuccino.

I like the cafe for its well hidden location in the midst of City Hall, cozy interior and great coffee to boot.

If you are not sure where to chill or for a light bite, apart from those boring food stores around City Hall area, pop by here.

This is a coffee joint but does not just serve the scones/waffles/cakes/ice cream. It serves real food so the review focuses on its lunch time menu.

I have been to this place 3x now and each time has been satisfying.  Foodwise, this place serves good sandwiches, it serves a good burger and fish and chips.

The menu has changed and been tweaked a couple of times. The first time I think I had a firecracker burger which was a decent burger but had too much sauce on it.

Subsequently the burger I had has become far more simple and in my view the better for it. Coffees are good and robust.

Ambience wise you have a choice of perching on stools outside which will be challenging for women in short skirts and can get warm in the afternoon. Inside things also get a little noisy but hey its a tiny place!

Service is attentive for  a new start up. Friendly and are able to decipher the menu for you. They also take simple mods for your food.

After a few repeat visits, I thought I'd post an update. The main changes: menu has been updated and prices nudged up a little ($2), but still represents a decent value proposition. Especially since pricing is on a nett basis. The food is still above average and good value at these prices. However there could be some improvements, e.g. add a small side salad with the burgers. Coffees are great. The ambience has been slightly improved by the interior renovations. The main downfall, as mentioned in my earlier review, is the service. A few times now it has been rather clumsy and uncoordinated, e.g. today completely forgot one of the orders. Initially we just thought the plate was coming late, as the table was not served together but in dribs and drabs. But since most of us had finished when I checked it turns out the waitress had completely forgotten. I've had issues like this a few times with the junior staff, while very friendly, need to get clearer communication and attention to detail. Today we had the bacon burger and eggs ben, and again can give a thumbs up.

SoHo 7 Cafe and Bistro is a nice little cafe near the Peranakan Museum. They serve a variety of breakfast dishes and opens early, making it a nice place to have early breakfasts (most open at 11 am).

During our visit, it was rather quiet and the staff at SoHo 7 were very friendly.

We had the Best Ever Breakfast and Mixed Berries Pancake, the pancakes would fare better if there was more maple syrup (and served separately).

It's amazing how a place can change so much but admittedly I haven't ventured to Armenian Street and its environs for several years. Nestled among an eclectic mix of sleek SOHO offices, an art gallery and a curios shop, is SoHo Coffee - a bright and cherry cafe that's perfect to spend a relaxing afternoon with a good cuppa and a book!

I was still a little overwhelmed when we reached the cafe and were cordially greeted upon entering.

Being the only patrons (it's Friday and past lunch hour), we quickly settled down and perused the menu. Feeling a bit warm, K decided to have an iced cafe latte ($5.50) while I stuck to the freshly-brewed cafe latte ($5).

After coaxing K into ordering bacon and toast ($12), I went straight for eggs benedict ($12).

We sipped on our coffee while waiting and found my cafe latte to be robust and aromatic but slightly thinner than my favorite cuppa. K's iced version was equally full-bodied and refreshing.

The bacon and toast arrived first. Served with scrambled egg and grilled tomato, the bacon strips were grilled to a nice crispness with no excess grease, while the creamy hollandaise sauce was smooth. It's adequately rich but not cloyingly so.

I had my eggs benedict with ham, and the two flawless poached eggs came with a bed of spinach resting on two pieces of flavorsome toasts and grilled tomato. Complete with lashings of hollandaise sauce, it's a simple yet very satisfying dish.

As we ate, I chanced upon some raisin scones ($1.50 each) on display. Warm, crumbly and generously studded with raisins, the scones weren't homemade but delicious nonetheless. Served with butter and jam, they were undoubtedly good with coffee.

The staff were warm and personable. While we were happily chomping away, the chef emerged from her kitchen to enquire about the food and recommended burgers for our next visit. Even as they got busy with spring-cleaning, we were offered water refills.

Before we left, the manager even found time to give us a brief low-down on future developments to this bustling arts and heritage district.

Needless to say, we enjoyed every minute at the cafe (loved the French music too) and would be looking forward to return for the burgers and give the new brew bar a go!

    Note: Prices are nett.

SOHO COFFEE was once called SOHO7 BISTRO&CAFE.

for pretty pictures of the place/food, check this out!

    http://ohnomnomnom.wordpress.com/2011/07/16/377/

I like this place a lot because it is in town yet it is hidden so well.

I had asked many of my SMU friends but they do not know of this cafe until posted it in my blog. nice.

Anyway, we went SOHO for brunch one weekend and we ordered:

    1. Best ever breakfast, 14++. This dish comprises of poached eggs, sausages, mushrooms, marinated tomatoes, veggies, bacon, toasts and coffee/tea. The presentation is unique i must say. Not too bad a dish!

    2. Eggs and Bacon toasts, 12++. scrambled eggs, bacon, marinated tomatoes and toasts. I like my scrambled eggs. The tomatoes was good.

The toasts that they serve here is surprisingly yellow and flat. In fact it looks so plain. however the first bite proved me wrong, the toasts are uniquely fragrant and tasty!

If you are looking for a quiet place with ur close friends or gf to dine in Douby Ghaut, this is just the right place:)

Just for a pre-warning, if you had

painstakingly washed your hair before this meal, please don’t make a fuss about

the lingering smell after that. Let’s just enjoy the meal shall we?

SoHo 7 cafe and bistro located at

Armenian street, just a stone’s throw away from SMU is a delightful addition to

the growing amount of cafes in the region. Featuring their very own

hand-roasted coffee with a variety of blends and single origin types, I was

well impressed with the lovely red roaster cum grinder placed lovingly within

the restaurant’s small space. Not so impressive was the heavy stench of grilled

patties circulating the still air.  So

much for grilled beef flavoured perfume...

We set about ordering the SoHo

Best ever burger ($9.70) and the Bacon Burger (alas, i forgot it’s exact price

and name even). Whilst my partner in crime, a.k.a

burger assassin had a latte to go along, in active role as his willing accomplice.

First of all, let’s just admit that the

coffee was delicious, albeit a little common in base notes but still excellent

in composition and temperature. The signature SoHo burger looked fantastic in

my opinion, it’s moist and tantalizing split of components held down by the

edge of a knife. Though my boyfriend, partner in crime had some grips about the

sloppy mess he created whilst attempting to eat it with his hands; I found its

sauciness extremely attractive. Mainly because I was used to consuming this

dish in a weirdly civilised manner (fork and knife). He did make a point though

that a burger should always have buns firm and large enough to contain its

contents without a major spill over occurring. Well, to each his own. I was

well satisfied with the ethereally soft buns smothered in a mixture of barbeque

sauce and mayo. The beef patty could have used a bit more seasoning and its

innards giving tell tale signs of over-handling in the mix. Still, I dived in

with gusto and finished the entire dish with a gregarious swipe of the plate.

    Darn that was good.
